Welcome
Welcome to our site dedicated to keep America sewing.
The Sew Lean Company is a manufacturing consulting firm whose mission is to use Lean thinking to help companies increase profits through process and quality improvements.
What is Lean and how does it work?
Lean’s objectives are no surprise: reducing costs, improving delivery times, and improving quality. Something we do in our business all the time. However, the reason Lean works is because it is a never-ending improvement system. Its goal is to eliminate all wasteful activities. That is, get rid of all work the customer doesn’t want to pay for such as inspections, idle time, inventory, repairs, and unnecessary movements.
Why does it work?
Lean works because it uses specific tools to simplify complicated problems. It changes a culture from problem-avoiding to one of problem-confronting. It works by building an enterprise on the four cornerstones of a sound organization: effective structure, managed discipline, meaningful control, and continual improvement.
So, what does it really mean to be Lean?
Lean simply means everyone in the organization, really everyone, is continually creating higher profits by working together to solve problems. In a Lean organization, process outcomes are stable, consistent, and predictable. Uncertainties are reduced and people work with greater ease and confidence. Life itself is leaner.
Becoming Lean is not easy. Is anything worthwhile easy? Read again, “So, what does it really mean to be Lean?” Does it describe your vision but not reality? If it does, start now to become Lean and mean it.
What can you can expect from Lean?
*Defects reduced by 20%.
*Delivery lead times reduced by 50% or more.
*On time delivery improved to 98+%
*Productivity increases of 7-20% per year
*Inventory reductions of 50%
